CCTV news on June 19, local time on June 18, the National Institute of higher health of Italy released a report on its official website, indicating that the genetic material of the new coronavirus was detected in the wastewater samples from the northern Italian cities of Milan and Turin in December.
The Italian National Institute of higher health is the main scientific research institution in charge of public health in the country. In April this year, the agency said that sampling and analysis from urban sewage treatment equipment could help to determine the situation of the new crown.
The published test results cover 40 test samples from October 2019 to February 2020, and 24 samples from September 2018 to June 2019 (24 samples are used to exclude the possibility of virus in this period), which are analyzed by two laboratories through different methods. The results showed that the genetic material RNA of the new coronavirus was detected in the wastewater samples of Milan and Turin on December 18, 2019, and Bologna on January 29, 2020; the new coronavirus still existed in the samples of three cities from January 2020 to February 2020; but the new coronavirus was not detected in the samples of October and November 2019.
